Kieselguhr - the silicon booster

Our diatomaceous earth powder consists of the skeletons of fossilized diatoms. These algae are single-celled organisms that are only 0.01 cm in size. They are found in salt water and fresh water. When the diatoms die, they sink to the bottom of the water, where they decompose until a stable shell remains. These shells are called diatomaceous earth. They consist primarily of silicon dioxide. However, diatomaceous earth is also a natural source of numerous minerals and trace elements, amorphous silicic acid, and small amounts of iron, potassium, calcium, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, and selenium. Diatomaceous earth is also known under the names diatomite, mountain flour, and diatomaceous earth.

*The tiny, microscopic, sharp edges of the diatom shells are dangerous to the chitinous exoskeleton of parasites. They scratch the exoskeleton of insects, causing them to dry out (duration approx. 24–72 hours)

Caution! The dust from diatomaceous earth should not be inhaled. If you want to treat your animal with diatomaceous earth, cover its eyes and nose. You can wear a face mask. However, we would like to mention here that it is not food-grade diatomaceous earth that poses an increased risk, but rather diatomaceous earth used for industrial purposes (agriculture, filter systems) that poses an increased risk when inhaled. Unfortunately, many articles do not differentiate between the two.

In cases of severe parasite infestation (endoparasites: e.g., worms, protozoa such as giardia, and ectoparasites: e.g., fleas or mites), or in cases of prolonged, unexplained hair loss, you should consult your veterinarian or animal health practitioner.
